You should probably wait for at least 30 days - although the algae will start to grow after about a week. You can go ahead and get an algae eater and purchase the appropriate food for the species at the pet store where you get your fish. My algea eater also eats algae wafers that I buy because it does such a great job on all the algae. You do need to keep them well fed or they may start to nibble on other fish in the tank. I have a Pleco, but would recommend several small Chinese Algae-eaters. They should suffice and be benign to the other fish.

Getting 2 POWERED FILTERS will help decrease the algae growth. Turning off the light during day light will also reduce it, it also saves energy, if it's under the sun that's really bad so I will move it away if I were you. Buying an algae eaters doesn't really solve the problem honestly. Changing water every 2 weeks will reduce it from getting algaes.

Never buy a Comet Goldfish that is the messiest fish out of all fishes that's also the reason why it's very cheap.

I've had an aquarium for more than 15 years already and trust me ALGAE EATERS don't solve the problem.

I hope this worked a lot. I'm an experienced aquarium keeper and I have 10 year old fishes in my tank.

Take pride to what you're doing &
GOOD LUCK!

It depends on the water quality and lighting. Some tanks don't grow algae at all. Do'nt get any sucker fish until you have stocked the tank. Some fish can't be put with others. You don't want to have incompatible fish because you jumped the gun on the algae issue.

If you keep your lights on constantly for like a week, it will start growing rampid, either that or put your tank in front of a window, that will get it growing faster than ever.
