Chimpanzees

Yes. Gorillas, Wolves. Any animals that have "packs" with Alpha males. They will kill each other to take control of the pack.

And Pit Bulls do not kill for no reason. Pitt bulls themselves are not bad dogs. They are breed poorly for fighting and they are trained to fight and kill. However there are very happy and loving Pitt bulls out there.

My friend rescued a Pitt Bull that was used as bait in a dog fight. She had been beaten, never fed, never taken to a vet and huge holes all over her from the other dogs. She was dropped off in the middle of nowhere left to die.

She is now recovered and one of the sweetest dogs ever. Now if Pitt bulls were automatic killers this Pitt bull would be the first on the list.

P.S. the question was do any animals besides humans kill at will for no reason? i mean not for food or protection?

No where was there a mention of killing for fun.. (just a note for the person who called us morons)

Anyone who answers yes to your question is simply a moron! No animal kills just for fun...animals do not have feelings of "fun" like we do. Any killing done by an animal (besides humans) always has a reason behind it...to protect their bloodline, to protect their young, to protect their own life, to defend their territory. I cannot believe all the stupid answers people have replied with!

Absolutely yes. The cat plays with it's prey before the lethal bite. They enjoy the thrill of the hunt. Domestic house cats love to torture baby birds, baby rabbits to death and then don't eat them. They are not killing them for food or protection.

Many animals kill out of jealousy of other animals that might want their mates for sex or kill to protect their rank in their group. Chickens peck "inferior" chickens to death to show their supremacy (that is why it is called "pecking order"). On a more familiar set of animals did you ever see a feral cat cripple and then torture a bird that is jumped on?

The answer is yes to a degree. There are those that consume their partner after copulation so that the male primarily will not inseminate other females of that species. Spiders for one.

It has been observed that Chimpanzee groups make "war" on each other.but since they are our nearest relative in the animal kingdom I suppose it is to be expected.
