I just don't get it. What is great about this show that it continues to get grand ratings?

Well, I'm one of those people who watch it. I don't watch it everyday and worship the judges, but I think it's a good show. Why? Though this may sound mean, some of the people who go to audition just make you laugh. Not their voices, but some of them dress up in costumes, but the real reason I watch the show is to see the judges reactions. I have to admit, the judges they picked for the show are really perfect, and it's so much fun to watch their reactions to these people. I mean, if you don't like the show, you don't. Some people like one thing, others may like another. It's just fun to watch for me.

I think American Idol is very got for reality shows but must admit from what I have seen so far it is starting to go down hill this year.They dont have alot of talent this year.

I guess in the beginning watching people fail (horribly) and others succeed and reaching their goal in the end are interesting to a lot of people.
Also it's about the music with me, when it's good it's like watching a concert.

People put there selves in their position and can relate if it was them good or bad.
It may also remind them of people around their area what would probably happen to them if it was them.
Oh yeah ,one more thing.The show would have never made as big as it did if it wasn't for Steve being such an a*ss!

I don't like the first few episodes, where it's all about hype, making fun of the really bad singers, etc. I like it when it actually becomes a talent/singing competition and hearing what the singers come up with.

Most ppl like watching others fail and like to laugh at their pain or embarrassment (which i think is really mean) but some ppl just enjoy it and like other ppl do well and what not....i'm not exactly sure y but this is a guess and i'm hoping it helped and also i'm sorry i couldn't explained my reason more b cuz i have to go...buh bye!!!

Because they love to watch people make fools of themselves ( in most cases) and a complete jackass ( who incidentally is paid to be this way) tell people how lousy they are and destroy any hopes they may have in show business.

I'm watching it right now, didn't watch last season, but the season before that. I can take it or leave it. Depends on the season. Not sure. It's funny. I liked Bo Bice. That's why I watched it that season.

When people go on TV and make fools of themselves, it makes you feel better about yourself.
Plus, towards the end, some of the singing's not half-bad.
