I understand that there are a lot people who can't get enough money working minimum wage jobs however if the minimum wage goes up like congress plans, most businesses won't be able to afford to hire people and even more people will suffer do to job losses.

Not to mention the simple fact that its none of the government's business how much a private corporation pays its employees. If McDonalds wants to pay 5 cents an hour and somebody wants to take that job than they should have every right to.

Thoughts?

The minimum wage should be increased. Realize that some people are exempt from the provisions of the law. Your thought that some businesses will not hire workers, is correct, however, once everyone is adjusted to the new wage, jobs will come back, as needed.

People are never going to get ahead by depending on a minimum wage increase. It is impossible, because any wage increase large enough to be truly helpful will only spark inflation. The inflation will erode the buying power gained from the wage increase and it will simply achieve a new equilibrium at the higher wage point. The only way out is to get an education and make yourself more valuable in the job market.

Absolutely not...but theres no point arguing it.
Why should the govt set the wage? The rational behind it is to create equity....
Why shouldn't the govt set the wage? The rational behind it is it created inefficiency...
But to sum it up if minimum wage is increased...the people earning minimum wage will benefit...and everyone earning from
($7.50 to $15) have to bear the majority of the burden. Small business will not be hurt because they will get the tax breask for paying employees higher. (this is now being debated in the senate). So only the people who are earning a little bit over the minimum wage will be hurt.

You're absolutely right, Simon. For more reasons than people
realize.
If a government has "rights" to decide what a company owner
pays his workers, then that government is actually the real
employer, not the business owner.
The meaning of private property is already becoming very
confused and blurred.

Yes I do think the min. should be increased. Noone says anything when congress votes themselves big fat raises. When gas prices and food prices goes up for the well to-do it goes up for the wprking class too.
