Help! I have always wanted another child. I already have a 7yr. old daugher who is amazing, but feel that our family would be complete with another child. My daughter would love a sibling and I would love to raise another child. I've considered all of my optios... sperm donor (may not work), adoption (so expensive) and adopted thru the foster care system (children with lots of issues and usually siblings). Financially, i can make it work, but it would be tight. I don't want to marry for this reason, so being a single mom is my only option at this point. A bonus : I'm a teacher and work great hours and have summers off, but I know it would still be very difficult. I stay awake at nights surching for an answer. Any input would be most helpful!

Hi,

If I were you I would find out when you are ovulating then try AI at home. You can get a kit and sperm from a bank shippied right to your home. It isn't overly expensive and it is worth a try or two.

Also, if you have good benefits at work that cover fertility drugs, next I would go to a fertility clinic have them assist you by prescribing fertility drugs and maybe doing an AI or an IUI there.

Best wishes to you!

first i would reccomend you get in contact with your local foster service. it's a pretty big misconception that only siblings, and children with severe problems are available. while this may be the majority, this is not the only situations that are listed with the foster service. take their classes and keep in contact with your social worker. you sound like someone who could do a great service to a little one who just might need a little extra TLC to get their life going. adoption through an agency can be expensive, but it does not have to be. there's a federal tax credit up to 10k that can be taken over 5 years and several states offer $2500 or more in the same type of credit. granted you will be responsible for the fees now, but can be reimbursed over time. there are banks and different instutions that offer low interest adoption financing. without knowing your health or ability i cannot really give you advice on sperm donor. i do know it can be very difficult on your body and there are several risks associated with any pregnancy over the age of 35. and do you want to risk your health with your 7 year old to take care of, would be another question. no matter, i hope you find the missing part of your family. there are several options, you just have to get out there and research. ask tons of questions and decide which is the best option for you, and then go after it. my best to you.

Foster kids do not necessarily have any more issues than other children who have been through the same things. I was in foster care for ten years and I am one of the most well adjusted, level-headed adults you could ever hope to meet.
