I believe that a background check is only for your criminal history. There is no database that keeps up with everyone jobs.

They "may" be able to ascertain the information if they were to run a credit check and then follow up with the company and inquire; however, I believe it is illegal for them to do so without your prior written consent.
I'd be more concerned with covering the "gap" in employment.
Depending on why you were fired, it may or may not be wise to reveal the information. Unless sharing it makes you look smart and they appreciate some aspect about you that contributed to your firing OR if you can sincerely tell something positive you learned from the experience and are looking forward to "moving on", I would creatively find another way to explain the employment gap?

You didn't provide any details about your current job such as stability, benefits, commute and your work environment (coworkers, boss, etc.). As with any job, it's a risk but try to think about what is most important to you (money, benefits, travel, advancement, etc.) and rank them. If your private sector job is a little unstable (e.g. layoffs), then it might be better to go with the gov't job since it's not much of a pay cut.

No a background check usually only checks for a criminal record. If you are applying for a job in certain financial or high level positions, they may also check your credit or financial debt. Also, employers may not disclose more than your hire and last date, unless you agree for them to disclose more.

Sure. There will be a blank in your employment record, your job may appear in your credit report, etc. No matter how stupid, you should report the job and be prepared to explain it. If the reason impacts the new job, then you may not get it and may have to take another route to establish your reputation.

Yes...they may find out... don't ever leave crucial information off a job application!!! Why do you think they ask for references........ you aren't even required to put down on an application why you no longer work for your former employer...... and they are not allowed to ask HR about why you are no longer employed with them. They only thing they can ask is...how long you worked there,,your salary, your position, and would they hire you again.

technically they can found out anything i doubt that would hurt u from getting a new job cuz somewhere someone is gonna hire you dont worry cuz if they see fear in ur face then their gonna bring that up....but thats not a big reason to bring up!!!!! just dont worry about!! everything will work out the way it was meant to be!!!
