I've been using Nuvaring since March 2006 but it's causing unwanted (obviously) weight gain....

I have an appointment with my OBG next week to discuss getting an IUD. Does anyone have experience with this device? I'm a little younger the the average woman, I'm 31, who gets this (according to my doctor) but given my life situation my primary care physician has decided that this is the route I should take.

Has anyone had any negative experiences with the IUD?

I got my IUD at 25 years old. I have used one for 14 years. The only negative I can say is I have more cramping and heavier flows than before but nothing that makes me miserable or anything. I would not use anything else. I chose the IUD because it was the only thing I could find that would not cause the weight gain that happens with hormonal treatments.

One of my friends has gotten pregnant twice while using a IUD. This is all within less then 3 years time. I thought about getting one and decided against it because of that. You never know, I guess, if it was implanted right or what, but since I'm not ready yet I'm not taking my chances. Good luck on your decision.

My spouse's employee was using an IUD and got pregnant, with a terribly, painful pregnancy for 4 months. She miscarried the fetus.
Meahwhile she had lost a lot of work and income..
