Having lived with, and still servicing, septic systems, I can tell you with confidence that the difference in the most common dishwasher detergents is small, and whatever you choose, it's going to be fine.

Septic systems CAN be affected by some chemicals, but it takes a good bit to do that. The best thing you can do, and this is for any septic system , is to use a good enzyme additive like rid-x on a somewhat regular basis.

I have a septic system and I use Cascaid gel or liquid not the powder. I haven't had any problems with the septic or the grass.

Our plumber and appliance tech both told me that Cascade is the best.
Its has the fewest phosphates and still does a good job.
