Who is one person who you think affects African-Americans in any way today and how come?

I need ideas for homework... can you please tell me someone who affects african americans in (any or best) way in current days and what are they doing?

For someone a little less obvious, how about the two Super Bowl coaches? Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith. This is the first time there will be an African-american coach...and not only one but two make it to the Big Game.

There have been several articles talking about the impact of this. In one way, they affect African-americans by making the impossible possible. That is, 20 years ago it was big news for a team to hire Art Shell as head coach. Now African-American coaches are almost common. It's not news anymore - and that's a good thing.

These guys have broken down a barrier. There was a notion, sometimes spoken of sometimes not, that only a White guy was "smart" enough to be coach - others might have the "god given talent" to play the game but it took skill to be a coach.

I think when these barriers fall they have implications for society as a whole. Every time we grow accostomed to seeing African-americans succeed in new leadership roles it widens the possibilties we see for ourselves and that society sees for us.

Sorry - got a little carried away. It is a GOOD topic, though!

W.E.B. DuBois, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcom X, Angela Davis, Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, Colin Powell, and Nelson Mandela are among many honored African American leaders in their fields. Research their contributions to this country and the world at large.

There is no one single person who affects all African Americans.

I would investigate Oprah Winfrey, Al Sharpton, the members of the Congressional Black Caucus, and celebrities involved in community improvements.

African Americans are confused and have inept leadership that segregate and hold them down from prospering as well as they can. They can't decide whether to be called black or African American. They have leaders like Al Sharpton who want to keep blacks down and on welfare. They do not have families without dads, they have very few role models but instead thugs in sports with massive tattoos, attitudes and show boating, they have hip hoppers and rappers who waste their money on drugs, guns, whores, sooped up SUV's, and rap about the immoral lifestyle. One of the only true role models who tried to point some of this gutter behavior was Bill Cosby, who was shot down by the black community for telling the truth. Really, there are no black role models who are accepted. The decent people like Colin Powell, Condi Rice, Bill Cosby are ignored and ridiculed for success.
