It's the same price no matter which one you get. If you get the starter kit, it costs 10 bucks more, but you also get a coupon for 10 bucks off a 360 game.

I started out with the starter kit on the XBX because at the time, it came with the headphones.

Starter kit includes the headset, if you already have one don't bother - that's the only difference. The deal gets better (lower monthly fee) the longer you go on the contract. In other words, the 3 month is more expensive per month than the 12 month deal.

You can buy either version. The starter kit comes with some extras so you may want to buy it.
