it was the name that the came up for the class Harry taught about how to defend againist the Dark Arts but they abbreviated to D.A.
as a joke Ginny Weasely said they should call themselves Dumbledore's Army because that was why the ministry didn't want them learning the D.A.D.A. and they were afraid that Dumbledore was trying to create an army of students to fight againist him (Fudge) and the ministry

D.A. stands for Dumbledore's Army. It was the name suggested by Ginny Weasley to the group which Ron, Harry and Hermione started when they were not allowed by the Ministry to learn and practice spells and stuff. It was what they thought the Ministry's worst fear. :)
