Absolutely, in fact most medical schools prefer a more diverse student rather than a simple bio major it adds an extra layer to the package you present. So go on and study cooking. Just remember that there are required courses that you must take to be considered for admission. Speak to your pre-med adviser he/she will give you a list of the courses. I believe that it is only like six or so and most students have to take a few of them anyway.

Pre-med is not a major. You can finish the required science classes in three years. I think that it is wise to choose another major to take the advanced level courses and graduate with a BS in that major. I took psychology and got my degree with honors. I don't think that you need to be an RN, but I'm not sure that a medical school would be impressed with your training as a pastry chef—something more in the sciences or math which will also help you in your medical training.

Med schools don't have a required major. Just do the required courses and they're happy to consider you. You can be a pastry check for 4 years as long as you take all their required courses (most of which are science related).

Why would you not want a healthcare degree if you were going to med school anyway? It just doesn't make sense.
As long as pastry chef degree included the needed classes you would be fine. Unless say it was between you and someone with a healthcare degree to get in.
Most pasty chefs are too smart to go to med school anyway.

Yes, your degree can be in anything. But you do have to also have the prerequicites such as organic chem. I know med students with History, English, chem, and physics degrees.
And dont forget the MCAT.

As long as you take the required classes to get into Medical School, and of course, the MCAT, it doesn't matter if you have a degree or not.
Here, in Texas, is the list of classes to get into UTHSC-SA Medical School, it is on Page 2 of the application, listed under source.
