WW works. Try it. It is a support group and essentially you watch what you eat. The group support keeps you conscious of your goals. Go for it!!

Weight Watchers worked for me 20 years ago, I lost 60 lbs. They keep changing the program though to offer more choices so make sure you pick what works for you.
I found going to a weight watchers meeting is the BEST. Not only because you see others loosing the weight and not because you get a pep talk. The main reason is that they weight you each week. When you know that the leader is looking at your progress on the scale, you try hard all week for that loss. Without being weighed and having to face the consequences, you may not do as well. It kept me on track and I was horrified if I did not lose so I tried harder the next week.

I like them the best because they have REAL FOOD and they do not starve you. Basically, they are teaching you the best way to eat for a lifetime. And they have top experts who devise their diets plans.
You should lose the 20 lbs in about 10 weeks at 2 lbs a week.
Don't try to lose more than this because you body will retaliate and try to hold the weight thinking that you are starving yourself.
Do it slow and easy.
Good Luck

If south beach didn't work to get 20lbs off of you, then you are probably already at a normal or healthy weight. Diets are never the answer anyway, and I believe that most people asking this same questions in various forms are totally screwed up about normal weight is. Here's what you really want, and it has nothing to do with a number on a scale. YOU WANT TO BE FIT AND LOOK GOOD! Here's how you do that. 1. exercise daily for about an hour, work up a sweat, increase your heart rate, and wear out some muscles. 2. eat frequently and sensibly. This what makes people look and feel healthy and sexy. It has nothing to do with height and weight, numbers on scales, or a waist size. It is only good sense, and it's the lifestyle that is the goal and what makes one look and feel good -- not a number.

You can really jump start your weight loss with the South Beach diet at least for 2-3wks (the first phase)any more than that is a little boring. Then do Weight Watchers which is a great way to continue control your portion sizes and offers variety. I did it that way and lost about 20# in 3mos.

One thing I know about Weight Watchers. You can join online. That's convenient if you don't want to attend meetings. Some people like a group setting of a meeting.
Online you'll get e-mail messages about recipes. They help you figure out what your weight goals are, etc. Just go online and read their website.
I know someone who works for Weight Watchers and lost a lot of weight through them.
Remember, it's a lifestyle change. It's not a DIET.

As an experienced person in nutrition, let me suggest to stop wasting money on fad diets. These diets are not kept up and the dieter goes off weight management and begins to regain the weight. This can go on a couple of times and each time it becomes harder to lose weight. I suggest to see a licensed nutritionist and he or she will teach you how to lose weight safely by eating regular food. The key to losing weight however, is to burn more calories a day than you consume.
