L4 means in-Line 4 cylinders.

Karnak is correct. If you do not already know, the rest of the acronyms mean: DOHC (double overhead camshaft) L4 (given), MFPI (multi-point fuel injection)

4 cylinder, with 4 valves per cylinger, that is where you get the 16 valves at.
