well she is preganet, she went to the doctor but they said the didn't hear a heartbeat but her dad said that the baby is moving. they estimated that she is only 10 weeks. i really want to know how far along she is because she is showing and the baby is moving in her and she is gaining weight. everyone says she is 4-5 months but the doctor said only 10 weeks, i just can't figure out why they couldn't find a heartbeat.

You need to get a true due date and length of pregnancy. If she is only about ten weeks, not hearing a heartbeat is perfectly normal. Has an ultrasound been done? This is the best way to assess fetal age, as they grow at a constant rate. The size of the fetus can tell it's gestational age. Make sure you know this before you jump to any conclusions or get too worried.

As for "showing"- that wouldn't be happening at 10 weeks, especially if this is a first pregnancy. I actually lost weight in my first trimester (12 weeks) with both my girls- but I was also pretty sick, and that played a role. If she has gained weight in that area, and is truly only about 10 weeks, I'd guess the weight gain is a coincidence, or a psychosomatic event (she thinks she should be showing, so she starts to put on weight in that body area). I'd also wonder why her dad is sure that the baby is moving? Indigestion?

Anyway, I'm not a doctor, only a mom who's been pregnant twice, so these are only my thoughts- nothing that I learned in med school or anything, just my life experience! Good Luck!

Well, you should ask her when her last period was. If she is only 10 weeks, she would most likely not be showing at all, and at 10 weeks, you should be able to find a heartbeat as well. It could also do with the location of her placenta. She should get an ultrasound, so the baby could be measured. The ultrasounds are not perfect, but they will give you a good guessing starting point if the last date of her period is unknown...

women cant feel babies move until the 22-26th week generally... and nobody else would be able to feel it either. If she could feel it, that would put her at about 5months -6 months 2 weeks pregnant. Im assuming shes not that far, or she would be showing quite a bit, and they would definately be able to find a heartbeat unless the child was stillborn. Have they done an ultrasound? The doctor is the one to trust here... after all, its his job.

Sometimes they can't hear them at 10 weeks. 10-12 weeks is normal to hear the heartbeat for the first time. She has obviously been gaining weight as well meaning it may be harder to pick up the heartbeat this early.

at 10wks, you SHOULD hear a heartbeat, but not always. Showing at 10 wks? No. baby moving, noticeably? No.
Tell her to get an ultrasound. And go with her. If you are the father, you have that right and responsibilty.

well if she was 4 months the dr could tell my her last period and by the size of her uterus and being 10 wks is sometimes to early to here a heart beat, and at 10 wks she shouldnt of gained alot of weght just yet. and her feeling the baby move could just be gas. she might look like she is 4 months but i think the dr would know what he is talking about they are trained for this kind of thing you know. i have 2 kids and another on the way. and if its to early to hear the heart beat i think it would be to early for her to feel the move ments, but if your not happy with what this doc says go see another one but chances are he will say the same thing. do to the size of her uterus and last period.

if it is only 10 weeks, then sometimes it can be difficult to hear the heartbeat. I remember my doctor saying "I can't make any proimises, but we'll try and see if we can hear it...don't worry if we can't".

As far as how far along she is, go by an ultrasound...those are very accurate, at least they were in my case!

Congrats....

Most likely, most of the time the heart is mature enough at 8 to 9 weeks

it is really hard to tell if she hasn't had an ultrasound done. When was her last period usually that would give you a good idea of how far along she could be.

Good Luck at finding out!

If you did not go to the Dr with her don't believe any of it. None of it matches up. Trust me I have 6 kids
