I'm a guy in my late 20s, in excellent health, but have always had a small bladder. I have to urinate a LOT -- often like once an hour during the day or even more, depending on how much i have to drink. I don't have any problems urinating or even any real sudden urgency to urinate -- i just can't hold much, and it's annoying how often i have to go, especially at night. When i was a kid i used to wet my bed every night because of this; now i *usually* can get up in the middle of the night to go, which is better but still annoying, especially when it's freezing cold out!

Is it possible by forcing myself to hold it in for a long time to stretch out my bladder so that it can hold more? Or will trying to stretch it out like that just cause more problems for my bladder in the long term? If holding it doesn't work, is there a surgery or some other treatment that could enable my bladder to hold more?

Anyone else had any experience with this? Any input would be much appreciated!

a doctor can stretch your bladder but it is a pain in the .... well bladder. My doctor catherized me when I was 11 and filled my bladder to full then added a lttle more and made me hold it for 10 min then he let my bladder drain then refilled it adding even more fluid than the last time and over and over for it felt like years but was actually only a hour. I would much rather have too go pee a lot than ever live through that again. There is a med for over active bladders

Is it possible to stretch out your bladder... yes! Will that make you go to the bathroom less... NO!

The bladder itself is only a container, what makes you urinate are the receptors that tell your brain you need to go urinate. Think of it as a gas tank, when you pump gas in your car there are sensors on the pump that says your tank is full... regardless of the size. Now imagine if those sensors were slightly off and the tank either over filled or didn't fill enough.

You can stretch your bladder out, but you will still have the same issues and you will have a larger amount to urinate.

I would imagine you could go to a doctor and they will give you some potion to cure whatever ales ya. Me, I would try to hold your tinkle a little bit more each day, the idea I think would be to train your sensors to delay the sensation of urgency to your brain.

So if your bladder isn't spilling over, you could go longer before feeling the overwhelming need to have to purge.

I would take a glance at www.webmd.com to read up on what professionals have to say about it.

Good luck and make sure you tinkle before bed ;)

confident, that's obtainable to do bladder retraining. once you first experience the urge to circulate, carry off for 5 minutes. Then circulate. try this for numerous days, then attempt to strengthen the time to 10 minutes for numerous days...and so on. till your urinating much less often. additionally, has your healthcare expert clinically determined you with a small bladder? Or is this a end you have come to? perhaps you're having bladder spasms - subsequently, the reason you experience you need to circulate for all time. Or, perhaps you're continuously diuresing (dropping fluids). If the latter is the case, you have to be evaluated by using a healthcare expert. Do you besides could drink alot in the process the day and experience thirsty for all time? this could be an illustration of Diabetes.

"Stretching" the bladder is a bad idea. You might try a change in diet. first eliminate all caffiene. Also, don't drink any water for three the hours before going to bed. Drink water when you wake up, but not huge amounts at one time.
