Is the problem here distributing food, or producing it?

Would someone please tell me how much food is produced in one year? Also, give your opinion on the above question.

There is no production problem. Most Americans are over weight because we have excess food and it is very cheap.

We produce so much food that huge quantities are exported. We export chicken to Japan, China, Russian and all over asia.

I've seen plants where rail car after rail car is loaded and shipped out 6 to 7 days a week. Warehouses with 12 to 15 million pounds of frozen chicken products waiting to be shipped.

Frankly I don't really see a distribution problem. Most grocery stores have fresh vegetables, milk, bread, and meat available every day. When was the last time you went to a grocery store that was completely out of milk, eggs, bread, fresh hamburger, fresh chicken, fresh pork, it just doesn't happen. That's pretty efficient distribution if you ask me.

If you are talking about the US, in this country poor people are often fat -- a true American innovation. Hope that answers your question:- the problem here isn't in producing food or distributing food, it's in eating too much food.

Defintely distribution...and greed...and waste. There is enough food produced in the US for everyone here to be well-fed. Not necessarily Steak and Lobster, but plenty of food. If you take into account all the food wasted by individuals and institutions, we could probably feed all of Mexico and part of Canada's hungry,too.
