Ohhhhhhhh, I'm so with you there, i hate that. Some people just have no consideration for children. I'm not sure what you can do about it, I've shot them dirty looks and coped abuse back. These people aren't respectful enough to think about their children to start with so they are not going to be very open to criticism.

Let me guess, you're a new, yuppy mother who thinks the world revolves around you and your kid. You tool around in your minivan and talk on the cell phone. You gossip about other people who you don't approve of and say "Look at those bad parents".

Shut up and get over yourself. People smoke and do much worse than that around children. Go take your over protected rug rat on a "play date" with some other yuppy tool that you "approve of".

And by the way, nobody wants to see a picture of your kid so please remove it.

hmmm I grew up with my mother smoking around me...and as with most things when it comes to children...its usually not going to harm them. When it comes to second hand smoke...I have always been a skeptic as far as the true health hazards...genetics play a much larger role in cancer or other related illnesses supposedly linked to second hand smoke. Now hygene is another issue...both me and my wife are former smokers and we really cannot tolerate the smell of them around us...but do we think second hand smoke will harm our daughter (especially with the unspoken outlawing of smoking)...not in the least. I think you should ignore them...look at it this way...the way things have been going for smokers you shoudlnt have to deal with it much longer :)

im right there with you - it really pisses me off - unfortunately there is not much we can do about it unless they are smoking something illegal. - i know how you feel and im glad that you care about other peoples kids more than they care about their own -but i also think thats sad

And will you make sure the car seat is adjusted properly? Make sure the meal the kids are being fed is nutritious and balanced? How far are you willing to go into other people's lives?

I feel the same as you!
I go to them and tell them, very nicely, the dangers they are putting the children up to.
I cannot afford to let it pass. It is too important for that.
So, my answer is: Tell them, VERY NICELY.
