www.kayak.com sells tickets originating abroad and usually has good deals too. Otherwise try to find the Costa Rican national airline and buy it directly from them.

Call American Airlines. I have been to Costa Rica a number of times and American flies direct out of most major airports. Have gotten tickets for $750.00 round trip out of Detroit.
