The U.N. imposes these sanctions when they have suspicion to believe that the bombs won't be built for research or for defense alone. If they believe that a Nuke will be used against a rival country as an assault weapon, The U.N. jumps in to prevent millions of deaths. The U.S. has had no intention of using their nukes on other countries, the same with other countries allowed to have them. Like Iran, all they talk about is wiping out ( i believe Israel, but I'm not sure) Countries that have nuclear weapons for research and defense are no threat to the world, so are allowed to have them. However, I can see why people think that is hypocritical, but If you look at it the way I do, If you let these other countries have these weapons, and the U.N. allows them, then the U.N. could be responsible for millions of deaths. THAT is why the U.N. imposes these sanctions.

Well, in all fairness...There should not be a single country allowed to have nuclear weapons ( not even the US or Britian ).
However, there is ( in my opinion and not that it ever counts !!), I feel the chances of the US or Britian using their nuclear power to destroy another country ,is unlikely ( at least for now ).
The point is, countries that have deep hatred for other countries and are basically led by "war" preaching governments, should not be allowed to possess such weapons of mass destruction ( omg, I sound like Bush !). It is up to the collective world community to stop these countries !! If Iran attacks Israel with a nuclear weapon, it is going to affect every single person on this earth. And, if North Korea , China, Iran and many, many other countries have their way and reach their goals...The US is not safe. And as a Canadian, that means my country will always feel the fall out of such an attack.

Yes, this is what I'd like to know also. Yeah, yeah, yeah humans are so very intelligent, but that big intelligence may cause the extinction of humanity (and all other life forms). I do understand, however, why Iran having nuclear weapons is a very bad thing. Iran wants to "wipe Israel off the map" and put the world back in the middle ages. Hey, as a female and near-atheist, I know how horrific this would be.

Well for a start, you don't need weapons grade material for a power plant. The worry is the instability in countries that have extremist views about just who should be alive. The Iranians will launch, its not an if its a when. That's why Israel has them, its not a deterrent if you don't, yes its a whole do as I say not as I do approach that's full of hypocrisy. It would be nice if countries such as N. Korea would try feeding the thousands of starving people in their country, then take over the world later.

Iran has as much right to nuclear development as US and Israel...and it's been US which has used DU (depleted uranium) weapons causing immense damage to the environment and people, especially children and American soldiers.
Also, one keeps hearing that Iranian president wants Israel wiped out. Don't the American people realize that his speech was falsely translated to manipulate them and make them prepared for invading Iran. Don't the Americans realize that they're being fed false information by Jewish and Corporate media which contributes towards implementing the Zionist Israel's agenda. Ahmadinejad said that the present regime in Israel should go...this is not the same as Israel should be wiped out. Public issues and public debate is very much controlled to prevent the American public from learning about the atrocities constantly committed by American foreign policy and Israel.
Also, regardless of making bombs or not, Iran has a large population with dwindling oil resources, and nuclear power plants need to be constructed anyway to compensate for potential energy problems that may arise. It doesn't matter who is in power in the US, Democrats or Republicans, they're both very much in the pockets of the Israeli lobby.

Because unlike many libs, our leaders have studied history and know the dangers of letting a rouge country become highly militarized. Libs have not learned their lesson from Germany in the 1930's, when they dramatically increased their military strength while France and England did nothing. We saw the result of that mistake. Sadly, we now seem to have a new crop of leaders around the world that have forgotten history. They believe that we can negotiate this problem away....apply sanctions and force these countries to get rid of their nukes. We have been doing this for how many years now? Have we seen one bit of evidence that these countries are going to get rid of them. Quite the opposite. North Korea is trying to build long range rockets. Iran is working hard to build the bombs. When will you learn? Will it take one of these countries to use them first before you take any action?

i have no idea. honestly, i think its unfair coz no one questions the major powers. and if a smaller country like Iran and North Korea can have nuclear weapons...its rather obvious that the larger countries have them as well..and no one stops them...in fact these countries probably provide the materials for these nuclear weapons...i strongly oppose such discrimination
i think its all about power actually at the end of the day, which is really sad

well, because they will use them for worldwide threats. everyother country that has nuclear weapons are either with us or nuetral. We need a little bit of grace to shed upon this World Of Corruption. We stomp our foot on the Ground(USA) because if you look at it we are the Guardian of This Planet, and we need to take control.

Probably has something to do with the sheer number of whackos blowing themselves up in the name of "Allah". Oh and President Aljemawierdo in Iran also said something about his only desire is to wipe Israel off the map -- so yeah, they're basically nut jobs.
