Someone with a different name died in 2000 and under the same Social. This was brought to my attention when i went to purchase a vehicle. B/C of this my interest rate was slightly higher than i would have liked. Now i'm stuck with trying to figure out how do I get a hold of this information and how do i fix it. Someone out there please help.

I have had a very similar problem. You will need to go to your local Social Security Administration office. Take with you a color photo copy of your drivers license, enlarged; your actual license; your social security card; and an enlarged color copy of the front AND back of your social security card.
Also, file a police report immediately!

You need to immediately contact the Social Security Office that is nearest you. Look it up in the front part of your white pages telephone book. Do it as fast as you can, because if you have been paying into Social Security it obviously has been going to the SS# that you thought was yours. Good Luck!

as cyanne2ak posted, you need to get involved in this asap.
also, bring any and all proof of your identity with you, birth certificate, previous addresses, mom and or dad if need be.
the police won't really do any good if the person who stole your ss# is dead, but it wouldn't hurt to know the s.o.b.'s name so that you may be able to trace how your number was obtained( even crooks leave paper trails). then have your credit report pulled
by the big three, and make sure the issues are resolved, again
asap. if there is some reason that this overwhelms you you might want to consult a lawyer who deals with id theft. wish you all the luck in the world

You need to go to the Social Security office ASAP. They will be able to look into this. I would worry about this "persons" past money/credit history....since credit is run off your SS number.

Also, if you are working and paying into SS.......could this dead person have made a claim on what YOU paid into it??

This is bigger than just getting a car......take tomorrow off of work and get this corrected!!!!
