I have been sick for about a month now, I keep sneezing and I have a runny nose. All of the medicine that I have tried have not done me any good. I constantly cough, which is kind of embarassing when I go to school, especially now that it is mit-terms, and I don't want to keep disrupting everyone. My coughing has now become worse, taking a toll on my upper ribs and back.

Is there anything I can do?

A lot of people i know including myself complain that every time we catch a cold, it will end with a bad cough that last for at least 3 months. What you have is called a VIRUS. The over the counter medications you been taking is NOT a cure. It will only provide you temporary relief in hopes it will help you sleep well during the night. Your immune system is responsible for your cure. For your symptoms, i would suggest you buy one of these 2 over the counter medications: THERAFLU and/or ROBITUSSIN D. You should take them only at night right before you go to sleep. During the day, you should be drinking lots of water. You should only be eating soups (good when warm enough to sooth your throat) & you can drink hot tea, hot chocolate, any hot liquid will help your cough to calm down during the day. You should be staying home & getting a lot of sleep (because SLEEP) is the best remedy for a sick body. You should NOT be going out until you feel better. The more sleep you get, the faster your recovery will be. Also DO NOT SMOKE, if you smoke, now is the time to quit & DO NOT DRINK ANY ALCOHOL while you are sick. This can weaken your immune system & slow your recovery! Once you get better, you might want to start exercising on a regular basis (daily is best) because exercise helps lower your risk of catching a cold or any type of sickness for that matter. Also, stay away from illegal drugs. I'm not saying you take drugs, but it's always good to be DRUG FREE. Keep away from 2nd hand smoke (away from people while they are smoking). You will live a much healthier, longer life! GOOD LUCK & hope you get better soon.

A syrup of 1 teaspoon raw onion juice with 1 teaspoonful of honey kept over 3 to 4 hours serves as an excellent cough syrup.

See a doctor. Since you mention sneezing and nasal discharge, you may be continually exposed to an irritant such as mold or recent insecticide treatment. Try sleeping/living somewhere else for a couple of days to see if improves, but definitely see a doctor so they can help you determine the cause.

if its been going on that long you need to see a doctor. In the meanwhile hot tea with honey may help. So will hot lemonaid. Sucking on hard candies may help keep your throat lubricated and slow the cough

Well in high school they allow us to have gum and such...and you can buy cold-eze gum.
Also they allow us to use cough drops. I really like the halls citrus they taste like candy and they control the cough. It seems like u are really sick though...a month is a long time and aince u are starting to get pain from it you might want to see your family doctor and get a prescription.
