Carpet Python
Chidlren's python
Rainbow boa

Cornsnakes are a type of Rat snake so I don't understand what the one guy was talking about. I have one and it is kinda bity, but it wasn't handle and is only a couple of months old. I got it 2 weeks ago and it is starting to settle down. These are nice snakes and they come in many different colors and morphs.

Personally, if you don't mind going a little bigger, you can't beat a red tail boa when it comes to personality and being docile. I have one that is almost a year old and is just under 3 feet long. It has is very calm and is a great pet. Go with the size difference and get a red tail boa, you won't be sorry.

I have red tail boas and there awsome snakes but they get bigger then 6ft most of the time.. a Brazilian rainbow boa is really cool looking and can get up to 6ft and are relatively tame snakes. Corn snakes don't get to the size your looking for. I have a green tree python too that will get to that height but hmm most of the time they don't have a very nice personality. I would personally suggest a jungle carpet python they get to the correct height and are pretty tame. but when there smaller they are a bit bitey but it doesn't hurt more then a prick plus there relatively inexpensive. theres also many other diffrent types of snakes that would get to the correct height and alot more tame these are just the ones i personally own and have experience with I hope this helps...

Forget the burmese python, I used to own a breeding pair, the smallest was 13ft!

Boas are a good choice, some of them can grow quite large though (9/10ft) although they're usually around 6-8ft. with proper care are usually a very passive snake... especially the redtails:D

cornsnakes are ok, but a little small for my liking - very skinny

My favorite snake under 8ft would have to be a rat snake, they coil right round your arm when you pick em up, then jus sit there and wait for food to go past, or coil on top of your head if they're cold. but i don't think this is what you're lookibg for.

best advice i can give?

Get yourself a young healthy boa (up to 4 ft?) and see how you go from there, it'll probably take a year or two to reach 6 ft, but by then you'll know if you can handle it - or you might get the bug like i did, and end up with hundreds of them, all different shapes and sizes within months (my largest was baby, 16ft burmese python)

DO NOT get any sort of king snake, unless you're prepared to keep it seperate from any others - king snakes eat other snakes (unless the king is smaller obviously), when they smell each other they'll start to fight... if you don't mind getting bitten a few times you might be able to seperate them with jus minor injuries... better yet, jus don't get a king snake - they stink anyway

yea a burm is not a good pick it could get 10 feet in the first year.1 have a 13 foot 90 pound female thats 4 years old, a hog island boa would be nice they hit like 5 -6 feet and are really nice looking snakes

Yikes! I noticed someone said burmese python, don't get one of those unless you want a 7 foot snake in a year that eats rabbits and double the size after!
I like corns, kings, milks and rosy boas. If you want girth, make friends with a blood python or something like rainbow boa or dumeril's.

Gopher snake or a bull snake. They are a muscular snake that get around 6ft. & are very tame to handle & feed on rodents of the age appropriate size readily.

South Florida or Brooks kingsnake - it would be about as long as an adult python, just not quite as big around. Brooks has a good personality for a kingsnake, too. It's considered by some to be a color morph of a Florida kingsnake.

One just isn't enough...I am with you on that one. I currently own 28 snakes, none of which get over 5 feet. My personal favorites would be spotted pythons, they get around 5 feet, great personalities, good patterns and colors and good eaters. Another good choice for you might be a honduran milk snake, they get around 6 feet, come in albinos, hybinos, snows, and tons of other color morphs, and again are a good feeding snake with gentle personalities. Good luck!

Also Milk snakes have to kept separate from other snakes (they aren't that interesting) My 4 foot rat snake is lovely and there are many different types. I read about a Brazilian rainbow boa (6.2ft) that is meant to be easy to handle.

I'm not a snake person but I love Red Tail Boas. Those guys are awsome. And you pretty much take care of them the same way. They are how I got over my snake fear, now I'm hooked.
