Among the Fore people of New Guinea, cannibalism was/is a preferred way of disposing of the bodies of the dead. Fore women are responsible for the butchering of their deceased male relatives' bodies. Back in the 60s, kuru (a human version of mad cow disease) was a big problem among the Fore. (Cannibalism, even religious cannibalism like this, is illegal in New Guinea now, but assuredly some people still do it.)

How wouldst thou prefer to be cooked on a spit, fruit of choice in mouth over an open fire, Hawaiin style inside the hot ground, (where a fire had been prepared earlier) all covered in special plants and tree bark with a sprinkle of pinapple and coconut with a banana in mouth, or shouldst thou be hung overly salted in the sun for days or shouldst thou be smoked (hickory) in a smoke house?
