The crime rate in Orlando FL is really high latley. And I know this is not a Q but nobody asked and I needed to share that for all of you thinking of taking a holiday out here.

The crime rate in Orlando is about the same as everywhere else. Most of the crimes are involving tourists only because people tend to check their brain when they are on vacation. It's really not that bad- just be aware of your surroundings- lock your car- beware of suspicious activity- watch your wallet/purse. Unfortunatly, Orlando is such a high profile destination that it gets a bad rap. But it really is just as safe as any other city in the states.

Unfortunately this is very true and sad but the crime usually doesn't effect the tourists but more so the locals. Many of what has happened has been in our local communities. Except for a few situations like the guy holding hostages at a bank off 192 last year. And like Banana said the crimes involving tourists are no different anywhere else, tourists just need to remember that even though they are on vacation bad things still happen and to be aware of their surroundings.

Yes the crime rate is up in the Orlando area but I think the crime rate is probably up almost everywhere. The crimes that have been committed recently in the Orlando area have not been committed against tourist (not that this should make a difference) so no one should be afraid to visit Florida. As with anyplace that you travel, always be aware of your surroundings and practice safety.
