Need to know if any pregnant ladies out there worked overtime or were told they needed to when they were pregnant. How did you feel ? Were you sleepy? Is it a bad idea? DO you need to get a doctors note to allow you not to work?

I worked 44+ hours a week in a health care setting throughout my whole pregnancy. Of course it was hard, I was exhausted and really ready to take my maternity leave. But you have to do what you have to do and I made it all the way through. Just take it one day at a time, and take your time each day sit down when you can, drink often. Good luck.

I think it depends on what you yourself can handle.

In the beginning i worked 70hr weeks (which was my norm before pregnancy) - horrible considering the constant "morning sickness".

I then cut back to 50hrs a week - due to tiredness mainly. I just couldn't do 70hrs anymore - no way no how! I was burnt out both physically and mentally!

I am 28wks and now i work between 40-45hrs a week depending on how busy it is. Now its getting really hard - i am constantly exhausted. Sometimes i must look so bad i'll be sent home early so i can get some sleep. I'm trying to decrease my workload, but i don't see that happening... still its better than the 70hrs i use to work!

These days when i arrive home i don't even have the energy to walk up the stairs, so i'll stay downstairs until i can motivate myself to walk up! lol.

My doc just told me not to push myself too hard - to try keep the stress levels down (sometimes thats just not possible) and to let him know if i start to feel overwhelmed. I think i'll be able to handle this pace until baby is born though so i'm not too concerned. Just try not to push yourself too hard and recognise your limits and i'm sure you'll be fine.

Good luck! :)

I worked 60 hours a week when I was pregnant with my first... I was the manager so I kinda had to... I was training my replacement. I was tired, but not really any more than I would have been otherwise. I made sure to take lots of "sitting" breaks and cut down on my walking time.. and I made sure to bring lots of healthy food to work with me so I could keep my nutrition up, which helped alot I think. Make sure you are getting enough sleep, and know your limit. Thats the best advice I can give.

I was never asked to work overtime; I did volunteer ONCE during my first pregnancy. I couldn't handle it b/c my legs hurt and I was too tired. But if you feel like working overtime, go for it!

pregnancy doesn't stop you from working but it does give you limits. work until you feel like you need to stop.
