My wife wants to fly five and a half hours at week 30 and week 32 of pregnancy. Is this safe? Is there an early labour risk in flying during this time?

I am not 27 -30 weeks. I am 32 weeks - today :) I personally have only bought a few items - maybe 3 outfits, stroller that was on clearance and a swing. But between both grandparents we have pretty much nothing left to get. We need a Monitor a crib and a few other smalll items. Grandma has promised to buy us a crib. But as of right now we have a play yard with a bassinet so its not right away. I have no idea what I am doing for Maternity leave. I probably work till I can. And take a few weeks off... or whatever is needed. I work at a photo studio that employees 3 people myself included. So I am needed there.

The answer is simple. Women who have uneventful pregnancies can usually fly up to 26 - 28 weeks pregnant, after this a "fit to fly" letter written by a Doctor is required by most airlines. This letter has to have been signed within 10 days of initial travel. Most airlines will accept this up to 36 weeks of pregnancy. After this some airlines will accept a letter to 38 weeks for short domstic flights only The final deciision is always with the individual airline. What all pregnant women need to bear in mind is that if they become ill during their stay abroad with for instance a bleed or premature labour airlines will be reluctant to carry you. I write a couple of "fit to fly" letters a month. The advice as always with international travel is have good travel insurance. Abstaining from alcohol and cafeine 48hrs before flying, taking exercise on the plane and the use of elastic compression stockings have all been found to reduce the risk of a Deep Vein Thrombosis.

Most airlines say it is safe to fly until the 32-36 week. It depends on the airline. As long as your wife has had no pre-term labor and has her doctors permission, it really shouldnt be a problem. You technically could fly right up to the 40th week, if you werent at risk of delivering early... it affects people differently.

I am sure that alot of airlines have a limit for flying in pregnancy which I think is 28wks however you would be best contacting the airlines directly and asking them. Also if you can fly with your wife ensure that you have medical insurance just incase she needed any medical care while you were away. good luck

Well, considering there are usually about 37 weeks in a pregnancy, I'd say it's VERY unsafe. My sister is pregnant right now, and they told her that she's not allowed to fly. I think you may want to wait a few more weeks until the child is born, or there might be some complications! Good luck!

It's pretty safe...usually at 8 months they no longer let you fly. I flew 5 hours when I was 30 weeks pregnant and I was fine. Just advice her to get a pillow for her back as it will start to ache a bit.

It's not safe to fly after 30 weeks due to the pressure in the air. Her water could break and at 30 weeks, it would be a risky premature birth.

She should first take it up with her doctor and then after that you have to check if the airline would let her board, I know there is some kinda boarding rule where after so many weeks you can't fly but I don't know when it is. Otherwise, she will be fine!

I think you need to get her Dr. approval during my first prego I was not allowed but with my second I traveled 3 times long trips with no problems so the doctor is the only one that can advice you as to what is best for mom and baby best of luck.
