The metric system is the official measuring system of the united states and has been since the late 1800s. The problem with the law was there was no set date when we had to convert. As the country expanded and the civil war took place, the switch to the metric system was put on hold. It remained on hold for decades. In the 1970s as many other countries switched to the metric system, America tried too...even with the metric system already being it's official measuring system...but in an era of social upheaval, civil rights, and an energy crisis...Americans would not have it. I use both the metric and imperial system nearly every day of my life. I like the metric system a lot more than the imperial system and believe in less than 20 years America will completely switch over. It will cost a lot of money to do, but if it can be re-oficially phased in, I can see it working.

Interesting question, It may have to do with our policy of isolation during George Washington's time. During ww2 The Germans identified American spies by the way we eat.

I am a true American, not only part Native American but even my European roots go back to 12th century Scotland.

We do everything different. If the US switched to metrics , I would be lost.

It is common to believe that whatever you do is correct. It is not correctness for me, as much as understanding.

I for one am glad.
