Little dude who's normally a homebody goes on a grand adventure and beats a dragon, coming back with all sorts of goodies.

What's to explain? It's not like it has a hidden meaning? It's just a good fantasy story. If you read the book, you'll be fine.

Well one day the Hobbit was wisked away to never never land by a huge tornado and met up with the tooth fairy and a bunch of little people called liliputians. There he met up with the scarecrow and a tin man and a great big fluffy bear called Toto. They skipped down the blue lane until they came to a large castle called Camelot where they met a wizard called Merlin dress all in a hot pink number with pom poms on the tip of his pointy ears. Merlins student, Harry Potter, decided to help the little hobbit home and called his friend the fluffy dragon to fly him back home with a mongol horde little green men to take over the town of Hobbit town so the the little Hobbit could become a vicious ruler of all of Hobbit town....The End
And that is all the truth...would I lie?
Now study the story you should have been reading for the past month....you lazy orc.

It is way too involved to try and give a decent synopsis of it. There will undoubtedly be questions on it that will not be in a short rundown of it here. You should have read it, it is an awesome book.
If all else fails, go here, it will give you a rundown of it.
