Is NASCAR a sport?

Please help with an arguement, and back up your answer

Yes it's a sport. Though I'm not sure how you define a "sport". It's a game and there are winners and losers.. so I guess that's how you could define a sport. I think NASCAR has all the strategy of football.

I know the question comes up sometimes about whether NASCAR participants are athletes. I think they are. I think it takes alot of physical stamina to concentrate on driving a car at 190 mph with traffic all around, at it's limits.. almost out of control, for 3 plus hours, no half time, no time-outs (unless you consider a 15 second break [pit stop] every hour a break), in 130 degree heat (the temp inside the car).. every weekend, for 36 weeks, no DL, no tag teams etc.. If that's doesn't make you an athlete.. then we definitely need to reclassify baseball players! Even the pit crew are more like linebackers.. try jumping over a wall with a 40 pound jack, jacking up a car, lowering it, running the jack around to the other side and doing all it over again.. in 12-13 seconds... I'd call that person an athlete.

Yes NASCAR is a team sport. It may seem that the equipment is the "player" but it takes much collaboration and effort to put together a team. The crew must work together toward the effort of fielding a competetive car, the driver must be in good shape (try driving as fast as you can for 4 hours sometime), the pit crew diligently practice their maneuvers, and many teams have a pit crew coach and a doctor as well.
The car is only a piece of equipment, all sports use some form of equipment.

Yes, but not so much of an athletic sport. It's a similar agruement about cheerleading being a sport.
