Depends on whether you mean ancient or modern. I'm assuming modern is your goal, so the answer would be the Romans. They created the calender we use today. January is named for the Roman god Janus (god of beginnings and endings), the meaning of February and March escape me, but April comes from "aprilis" meaning "to open" which is what all the flowers do then. May escapes me, but June is named for Juno, queen of the gods and Jupiter's (the king of the gods) wife. July is named for Julius Caesar. August is named for Augustus Caesar, and September, October, November and December, stand for the seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth months respectively. However, those numbers don't jibe with reality today because the original Roman calender had 10 months. But eventually the seasons got so out of whack with reality, the Romans added two months to even things out, July and August. When those months were added, they'd succeeded in creating the calendar we still use today, but for some unknown reason, they never changed the names of the last months (7-10) to conform to their new reality (9-12).

An occasion of the latter must be Apple's iPhoto.
