What they mean when they say "roots", is when you play a chord, you play several different notes at the same time, but the root note is the note that designates the name of the chord you are playing, and it coincides with the bass note that the bass player is playing at the same time you are playing a chord ! For instance, if you are playing a C chord, the root note of that chord is a C note , and the bass player plays a C note on his bass at the same time to coincide with you !!

What do you mean by roots? I've been playing 40 yrs. Do you mean the root note of each chord, scale? You might want to learn how to sight-read(depending on how serious of a player you are). Reading isn't necessary, but It sure helps. If you know your scales.. roots are okay, but I can make a major scale starting from the 3rd, 5th etc..

Get a real guitar, like one by Esteban. If yours is growing roots, you may have gotten one that was previously burried in the ground. I would take that back to the flea market seller.
