,I am not British, but if the USA had as big a problem with Muslim groups as the UK is currently having, I would support a "stop and search" policy in America.
Muslim groups do a fine job alienating themselves (purposely segregating their cloistered communities and refusing to assimilate into mainstream society), "stop and search" policies do nothing to alienate Muslims that they do not already do to themselves more effectively.
Muslim groups are notorious about protecting their own and refusing to help law enforcement with providing information about extremists or showing the country that they are actively against radical Islamic views.
It's always funny to see that the people who are first to shout about their civil rights being violated are the last to engage in civic responsibility for protection of their nation and fellow citizens.

presently, India must be a bigger best buddy than great Britain nevertheless. India is the only usa that would carry Iran, China, and Russia in examine, because of the certainty that it has nukes and that it could strike any of them interior its variety, and the army wherewithal that's mandatory desperately. the only reason Iran hasn't attacked Israel yet is via India. this could supply Iran extra pause. For that matter, Israel must be seeking to style an alliance with India, that's greater often than not a Buddhist and Hundu usa and not a Muslim usa (because of the fact that's how the united kingdom separated the worldwide places, according to faith). India is likewise the international's best loose usa. the united kingdom could be 2d.

Is it alienating them? It is for their own protection and for the protection of society as a whole. For example, if Chinese triads (or those that resembled them) went about the U.K setting off bombs, would you be against the police stopping and searching any Chinese people? Especially ones with proven links to triads, perhaps ones with say a triad mark on them or symbol?
Of course probably most of the vast majority of people who are stopped are completely innocent and done nothing wrong. But say you stop 10,000 people. 9,999 are innocent. 1 is a bomber and has now been apprehended. Lives have been saved. Which of course includes everyone, whatever race, religion or background.
Is this discomfort for those being stopped and searched so wrong in this scenario? Because that's how it is in the real world. If it was me being searched, questioned etc, I would fully understand and co-operate. I would also be dam thankful that there are those out there fighting day by day for our benefit, for our protection. These people should be praised, not criticised.

As soon as there are white christians bombing busses and trains, then they too will get searched.
When we had the troubles in Northern Ireland, it was the Irish that where searched.
So yes it is unfortunate and sometime humiliating to be stopped and searched, but it is a valid thing to do.

Many innocent people all over the world have been killed by terrorism, but does that justify blaming every Muslim, Christian or Jew?? It was the same at the time of the IRA bombings, I had some Catholic friends and some people condemed me for talking to them, because they classed all Catholics as member's of the IRA.
I myself converted to Islam 14 years ago, and have had a mixed reaction to this over the years. I certainly am not a terrorist, but some people automatically assume that I am, and when I came to Egypt 3 years ago, one enlightend soul said I had become a traitor to my country and had joined the terrorists. With bigoted views like his, there is little hope for any of us. This was my daughter's partner.
This is the problem these days, society sadly no longer has tolerance for each other, and as long as this continues, we will have situations where innocent people are stopped and searched, detained and questioned. We really only have ourselves to blame as a society in general as we do not try to find out about our fellow man, we just assume that all Muslims are terrorists.
In some countries where there have been bombings and killings, it is the Christians who have done it as in Sudan. In Israel, the Jews are never blamed, only again the Muslims, and yet the Jews have been just as guilty in many cases.
Untill we have religious tolerance the problem will continue and innocent people will get hurt, whether by bombs, racial hatred or physical violence to one another.
It really is time we started to listen properly to each other and try to mend the broken fences between us.

I do believe that Great Britain has had terrorism problems for a long time, that did not involve Muslims, but those that are Irish, and they used the same thing against a lot of white English people, to achieve the same goal, which is counter and anti-terrorism. Don't be such a spite full person. be forgiving and merciful, and repent of this deed you have committed, trying to separate people just because they are Muslim or Christian, as your book says. If you don't like it, then go to Saudi Arabia (um, wait a minute, I saw a lot of Muslims stopped and searched while I was there, Quait, um, wait a minute, they do not like the poor Muslims, or Pakistan... Urr, uh, ah, I do believe that there is random search of hmm, what are those people again,...Muslims!

I agree with The First Dragon, policies exist for a purpose, if they are to be avoided then they are to be disused completely, the head of policy if there is such a post is in an unenviable position.

Alienating? It's just tough love. We all know most Muslims are not terrorists, but the few ruin it for the many. The USA should do this too, but then we have the ACLU to deal with. They are of no help to our security.

The stop and search policy alienates everyone in this country not just muslims! I think it is an abuse of human rights and violates privacy of the person being searched. If an ordinary person who is not a cop demanded that you empty your pockets and attempted to search your body it would be classed as a mugging.Big brother IS watching( and waiting to search your most intimate places)
