Make it a game show! Divide the groups into 2-3 teams and see how much they know about ancient Egypt. Or do some kind of game. Kids love games.

That's a hard question. 2nd and 6th graders are never interested in something like Ancient Egypt. I would recomend having like, an Ancient Egypt Day. It may sound corny, but try it. Have each kid bring in something different. Assign some kids to bring in food that has something to do with Ancient Egypt. Have other kids make up games to play with the class that have to do with Ancient Egypt. If you want them to learn facts, play an easier version of Jeopardy with them with questions about Ancient Egypt. Bring in candy and give it to them for every three questions they get right. (Tell them to study the day before because you are going to give out candy if they know a lot about Ancient Egypt) Have the kids each make a small clay brick and decorate one side of it. Then take all the bricks the kids made, and make them into a class Ancient Egyptian pyramid. You can glue the bricks together. I think they would like that.

Talk about what typical 2nd and 6th graders did in a day. Bring props--clothing, money (They love foreign money!), anything that you have that is from Egypt. Teaching them some simple things to say in Arabic (?). Talk about meals and what they would eat if they were Egyptian and maybe bring some food in for them to taste or even have them make some if the facilities are there. Maybe have them make a pyramid or some other kind of craft.

As an Egyptian my self, I think I qualify for answering this question. visit http://www.discoverychannel.co.uk/egypt/index.shtml and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egypt#Culture or http://www.nationalgeographic.com/xpeditions/lessons/06/g35/kingtut.html for simple information and media to support your presentation.

First the second graders. I think the best thing is to show them an much pictures as you can about Egypt. After giving them the facts and stuff. Maybe you can pick a kid from the class, and use him or her as an example and talk to them about the mumification process. talk to them and maybe get bathroom paper and start to wrap it around the kid. Also, you might try having them make crowns or something.

For the six graders. First ask them what do they know about Egypt. You will be surprised. Them correct those ideas. Also show them as much pictures as you can. Maps are great. Maybe use the same stuff from before. and try http://greatscott.com/hiero/ to show them and talk to them about Hieroglyphics. May be have them try to write their name or something like that. That is what my teacher did in class years ago. Maybe you could try the mumy thing too.

most importantly, please inform them that egyptian do not live like that any more. Because kids come out of these classes thinking that egyptian live in pyramids until this very day. visit http://www.egyptgiftshop.com/egyptguide/modern_egypt_photos.html there you will find pictures of my city, Alexandria.

May be you should use power point or somthing like that.

I hope that helps.

The Sphinx will capture their interest, as well as the boats and buildings. Some pictures and sculptures of the different gods would catch their attention because of the mix of Human and animal.

While you could show sarcophagi and the gold coverings, I wouldn't get too much into mummies for the second graders.

Also Heiroglyphs, showing how they told stories. You may want to mention the Rosetta stone, but I wouldn't go too deep into how it was used (as the first translator of Heiroglyphs)

Mentioning Cleopatra used a container filled with bees as a vibrator wouldn't be a good start.

Relate it to them.

Talk about how in the past they would live, what they would eat, who made the laws. They are familiar with police so make a refrence there and compare things from now to then.

Talk about the games the children would play back then and there and play one with them.

okay pair the 2nd graders with 6th graders and so then the 2nd graders can have fun doing projects and stuff and the 6th graders can help and get to have fun with the little 2nd graders.

Talk to them about what children did in ancient Egypt. I read that little children shaved one/half of the hair off their head. See if you can find pictures of that and ask them what they think about styles and food of that time.

Talk about the things that YOU would like to know: Did they brush their teeth? How did kids go to school? What did they do for entertainment and relaxation? How did people buy and sell things they needed? What types of laws and customs did they have? Did they really worship cats?
