Whatever happened to Stoker's vampire-you know, the one that could turn into a wolf or a bat, create storms and fog, command rats, and disappear into thin air? Stoker's vampire is a lot cooler than the "modern day" vampire!

I think other writers just found him to difficult to believe in. For a while they tried to make him more human (Anne Rice, Laurell K. Hamilton). Stephen King, to his credit, created Mr. Barlowe (from 'Salem's Lot), who I believe is very similar (and intentionally so) to Stoker's Dracula. Barlowe is averse to all the traditional things, e.i.; garlic, crosses (wielded with faith, of course), and daylight, and the vampires he made were capable of disappearing into mists.

Stocker's Dracula became the victim of the media and the world of the TradeMarks, while people forgot the true meaning of the story. The modern vampire is so brutal, so rude. The original vampire was noble and proud, and did not need to act with such brutality: his natual charm was enough to reach everything.

Probably we need an other Stocker to get this Undead Lord back.

The original vampyres came into existence shortly after the creation of the Book of Pacts. They were accomplished xenomorphs, which made them dangerous, as the changing of shape on their level creates mental instability. The original vampyres could venture into daylight, though doing so sapped them of their strength and therefore their abilities as well. However, for all of their abilities, they were not able to cross running water, and so were extremely limited in their ability to travel far from home. This is why they made humans into vampyres, to create an extension of themselves to go where they could not.

Vampires change. They evolve just like humans. You are not still a caveman so they are not bat-shifters any more. ;)

Dracula had a bowie knife driven through his heart (by Quincey Morris) and his head cut offf with a kukri (Gurka) knife (By Johnathon Harker. Then his mouth was filled with garlic and his heart cut out and burned.....
So he is dust!!!
He is not the original though - Her name was Lilith and she was the false Eve (and demon).
