Neither Ovechkin or Crosby is the next Gretzky. Gretzky played in the old NHL when there was less scoring and he had a 215 point season. Ovechkin and Crosby, neither of them will hit 150 in a season. Gretzky absollutely dominated the game, Crosby does not dominate, Ovechkin somewhat does because of his physical play along with his true skill. I personally think Crosby is very overrated. I'm a fan of Ovechkin, but he's one of the only scorers on the team he's playing on. Gretzky absolutely dominated on true skill. Gretzky had 163 assists in one season. 93 goals in one season. 51 straight games with a point. 2857 points in his career. 1963 of those points were assists. No one will ever be like Gretzky. And even if someone gains as many points as Gretzky, it's the new NHL, with more scoring.

No, there will probably not be ANY next Gretzky.

The Penguins definitely have the best young talent in the league but some Penguin fans on Yahoo Answers are getting VERY carried away.

Gretzky was the only one who scored 200 points in a season and he did it MULTIPLE times. Crosby is on track to get about 100 this year -- a good season, but HALF of that. Gretzky routinely scored 50 points MORE than the runner-up. Crosby will not be that far ahead of Ovechkin, Thornton, Jagr, etc. IF he even wins The Art Ross Trophy. He is more physical than Gretzky was but does not have the same gift for anticipating the play the great one did. (He shouldn't feel bad, nobody else does or did).

Don't get me wrong, Crosby is the most exciting young player in quite a while. But until the Penguins win a few Stanley Cups, he picks up a few trophies, and piles up a LOT of points the comparisons are VERY premature.

Give More Time this is only his Second Season, we weren't in a Rush to see Gretzky perform at his best then why do we have to do it Sidney Crosby now.

this is a contridictable question
some say that he is but some say ovechkin is better
i say niether
people always compare poeple to gretzky and say they might be just as good
the same they do with MJ in the NBA but yet no one has ever matched up with the skill and stats that either of them have produced and mabye no one ever will
so even though crosby is a great young NHL star he's no gretzky

crosby is awesome...clueless..how can you say its just the pens fans on yahoo answers..when its EVERYBODY saying he is the next gretzky...have you watched espn??..sports magazines, shows...all compare him to gretzky and say he is the next great one..and it just so happens that the fans agree...he is passionate about the game...he cares about the team...if he has to pass to get a goal he does...he is polite and knows how to talk with the media...an all around great guy for only being 19...and really...he is on track for a 150 pt season...he has led the pt standing since dec. 13....there will never be an actual next gretzky..BUT sid the kid comes pretty damn close

On a team with the likes of Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal, in 5 years Crosby won't even be the best player on the Penguins.

It is way too early to tell but he is a rising star. He plays a very similar game as Gretzky but Lemieux is the best ever for sure.

He is the next Sydney Crosby. Just like Malkin is the next Malkin. I see no reason to compare them to the past. I don't care how good the past was, let's all appreaciate what it was. Rather then say how great this player is compared to the past let's talk about how great they are. No need to compare them to someone else.

i dont think of all of us would be ever considered to be as stable as gretzky. i advise he placed up one among those great style of things, gained one among those great style of scoring championships. If all of us comes close to to how lots factors he placed up in a season then i think of you need to be waiting to learn then. yet no longer yet. crosby may be the subsequent steve yzerman yet with greater upside.

He's an amazing talent, probably the best in at least a decade, but there's no way to tell if he's really The Next One until about 2020.
