Why not just get to know us? We speak English. We study at universities. We travel the world. We`re not ashamed. We won`t tell you what to wear. We make up our own minds. We`re strong. We`re even cool. We`d love to get to know you. And, we don`t bite.

Thanks for the answers so far!
By the way, I`m a home-grown Cdn. with Dutch roots (for those who care about such things) so please spare your comments about "fitting into our society".

I would love to talk to Muslim women and learn what they have to say. The Muslim world has a long and strong history. The people are intelligent and should be respected. I think it is essential that Muslims and non-Muslims get to know each other much better so that we can understand each other. When this happens, it will be much harder for both Muslims and non-Muslims to say "kill 'em all" and reach for a gun before reaching for a telephone or a cup of coffee. This, I believe should happen at a very grass roots level and not just among diplomats.

One barrier to communication with Muslim women is that, at least according to what we hear in the news, there are pretty strong rules governing speaking with Muslim women. This is especially true when a male is involved. The other day, I was walking with my aunt and cousin when a group of Muslim women asked us for directions. I let the ladies do the talking because I thought that was the most respectful thing to do.

So, my question for you is how do you think we can take the next step toward breaking the ice.

Believe it or not I had a Persian girlfriend before but the word Muslim never came into the conversation. Nor that of her parents. Great family! We are still friends. I am sure what you say is true. Every word. I would love to know you as well!

Again it is the Muslim men. What I mentioned before is that the majority of the West perceives the Muslim Culture as dangerous. The Muslim men here in the US do not try and change that stereo type and therefore the West believes what the media says. To this day I have not heard one Muslim Actively Speak out against the Radical Fundamentalist that the West Sees as your typical Muslim. We see the Muslim women as being oppressed. I know Turkey is very western and a great country, Men and Women alike. That is not what the west sees though. Heaven forbid, the Muslim Culture does not have a real spokesman that can go on Fox or CNN or MSNBC, like Sharpton or Jessie Jackson (who is in it for the money) for the black community as a representative to change that stereo type. Sorry but the West still sees Muslims as terrorist whether true or not true. You all need a PR firm badly. A make-over if you will. Now don't talk about the Christians or other Religious and what they have wrong with them. the Subject here is Muslims.

I agree with Cosmo totally. I live in Alberta Canada and about the Seik wearing his Turban I found to be an insult how come he could wear his turban but a Native man can not wear his braids? I seen a Muslim women at the train station inside and she spit a great big loogie on the floor then blew her nose with her fingers on the floor how gross is that. When in Rome do as the Romans. They need to fit in our society we do not need to fit in theirs at all this is our country.

I talk to Muslim women when I meet them. Here in the US, you are right of course.
And in countries where women are oppressed, it is not only the Muslim women.

I think it boils down to ,sorry this is the truth,, you come to different country's, but want your way of life, culture, religion, politics, to suit you here, so you change our laws for your selves, If we went to your country do you think your people would do that for us, (not one bit), I'm in Canada, best country in the world, we have changed our laws for many different cultures, but there has to be a limit, you would agree. The R.C.M.P. is federal police, there is a uniform, that has been worn for decades, it is Canadian, there was a seik?? that decided he had the right to wear a turban instead of the proper head wear, we have to change for other people , and maybe we are getting sick of it, this is our country , please enjoy it , your welcome to stay, become a citizen, let us learn from you. but dont make us change our culture , and our laws for you,
