You or someone else could bake him a cake shaped like a guitar: (2 round baking pans layed side by side to make the hour glass shape of the guitar & 1 loaf pan to make the neck of the guitar, by filling the pan very shallow & cutting the sides out lengthwise about 2/3's up then leaving it squared off on one end for the keys. Light colored overall icing, chocolate circle to look like a hole in the guitar, chocolate tube icing to create strings & candy hearts to make the keys. A foil wrapped choc heart could be laid near the "hole' like a pick)

You pay for the lunch - perhaps on a Saturday afternoon.
Make him a card - ok, you may cheat by going to the card section of the store and get great ideas. Guys don't admit it but they never get "handmade" cards - just for them.
Now if you have any money left over (because you might get a new dress for this occasion), get him a small present - yes very small - like candy - you know those little hearts with those "sayings" on them like 'kiss me', etc.
Ask him to dress up - and take him to a nice restaurant but make sure it's a place where the two of you will be comfortable.
Now - for you - Show up wearing that spectacular dress that you look - so great, fine and awesome in.
Wear those stockings, nice jewlery, nice earrrings, and great perfume (if you can get pheromone - which has a different scent on everyone).
Do your nails and makeup - again you will look so fine!
Don't tell him where you're going - unless he's the kind that has to know.
Send him an electronic email card -

Probably something thoughtful, because after all, when we get presents from girlfriends, it is kind of akward (not publically), box of chocolates would be fine, or a valentines day themed gift card to something like a music store or sporting goods store. Just something thoughtul and rather simple. Believe me, it gets really hard to return things.

Don't make it into a $$ competition with gifts and expectations. Guys HATE that. Just a nice dinner and a lovely backrub and maybe a note of how much you care about him and what you hope for your relationship to become over time.
