Doing a debate on Handguns...Need HELP!!!?

I have to write and present an opening statement for a debate on handgun control. I am for banning handguns and need help with my opening statement. Some good arguments would also be very helpful! thanks so much!

I was assigned to this side of the debate i have no strong feelings on eather side, so dont be an *** when you answer

Handgun control starts with a good eye and a steady aim. 9 crimes are stopped by home owners who use a firearm to every 1 crime successfully committed in a residence using a firearm.

Oops, I guess you want to make up some BS facts. Sorry, I'm for the responsible use of firearms. Once you disarm the citizenry you no longer have a free nation. Those who fail to learn history are destined to repeat it.

Try and get some real facts. Handgun control for people like yourself who fear them or don't want them in your house would be a good topic but please don't force your desires on the rest of us responsible citizens. I respect your right to decide for yourself, please respect mine.

Banning guns only ensures that those that will do harm will have them.

Are you aware that Switzwerland has more guns per capita than the US and has virtually no gun crime. The swiss are almost required by law to own guns and that includes Machine guns. anti aircraft weapons, anti tank weapons, etc.

All oppressive governments started by dissarming its citizenship. Read some history books.
