For those of you who were naive enough to think that ANYTHING was ever going to be done for Iraq, its now coming out what the real plan is. "GOP lawmakers noted that among the five areas, only residents in the District of Columbia pay federal income tax, and that the populations of American Samoa, Guam and the Virgin Islands are far below the average congressional district of more than 600,000. Puerto Rico has 4 million residents; American Samoa has fewer than 60,000."
I don't see how they can be a territory of the U.S. if they aren't paying federal income tax. The treatments for everyone being apart of the U.S. has to be equal. Either everyone pays federal income tax or no one pays federal income tax, anything else would be unconstitutional. If you want to play, you got to pay.
Smells like corporations on those islands don't want to pay taxes.
P.S. This is if the federal income taxation were legal, which it isn't legal anyways.

I'm a Republican Because... I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored. I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability. I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity. I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn. I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is that which governs least. I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people. I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times. I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world. FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

You know, The House's dissapproval of Bush's plan is actually part of the plan. Because of this opposition, the Iraqi government is now waking up and realizing this commitment isn't open ended. I think the opposition to his new plan is what is going to help it succeed. Now that the Iraqi government is awake, I feel the soldiers will be able to do what they are trained to do so we can get out of there. Pretty smart if you ask me. Go USA.

Well the repubs have had all the power for the last 6 years so what the heck is the difference? Shame on any politician for wanting to have power. I always thought that was what it was all about.

Look on the plus side. ( If what you are saying is true ); Power itself is illusory and quite ephemeral. It's when you have it you'd want to be careful as cause and effect is a constant. No matter who you think you are.

Good for her!
I laugh when I hear Republicans cry "unconstitutional" after they spent the last 6 years shredding the bill of rights!
