I have a leak inside my house from the heavy snow on my roof that has just begun to melt. All roofing companies have said they can't even come to give an estimate until the snow is off my roof. Snow removal companies have said they are not insured to do this kind of work...Any ideas out there? I don't want to watch a slow leak become a large one while I impatiently wait for mother nature to melt about a foot of snow up there.

The problem is that the ice has some how gotten up under the flashing and is now allowing the water to get in. Or the ice is creating a dam allowing water to collect on the roof.

Once the ice is gone, the leak will probably stop on its own.

The first thing I would do is get a roof rake and remove the heavy snow.

To ger rid of the ice, I have seen people go up there and use rock salt, or use hot water.

If you got a laundry sink in your basement, just connect up a garden hose and turn on the hot water and just spray down your roof. It might take a while, and you might get some more water inside but it will melt away the ice so you can call the roofing company.

You can use cold water from your outdoor faucet, but it will take longer

You can check out a tree trimming/removal company or any-
one that has a bucket truck. How about your insurance company.
I'm sure they would rather pay for a repair than a whole roof and
it can"t be fixed right until the snow is removed.
Good Luck

If you can't find someone to do it they sell a thing called a snow rake for this purpose. It looks like a big plastic hoe with an extendable handle. I live in New England and they sell them here. Not sure if they do where you live. If you have a home depot or lowes try them. Good luck.
