I've tried to look at this from several perspectives; here's the best answer I can come up with today. I think the love we are given is greater, but sometimes we struggle with receiving love for a multitude of reasons. The greatest thing is to have love on the inside - I mean by that an awareness deep within...just knowing that I AM loved. I know, in a way I cannot explain to someone who doesn't understand, that I am loved by God. His love for me is more real than anything in my life. It was not always that way, I used to know intellectually that God loved me, but my heart told me I wasn't worth diddley-squat.
Now I am secure in God's love and the love from others - that was always there before, but unfelt by me - is tangible. I am able to believe and experience love from other people. Before, I was too fearful and felt too unworthy to truly accept and take in love and good things from anyone else.
The love I give now feels magnified a hundredfold. It's wonderful, but it will never be more than the love I've received.
So, the short answer is: the more love we are able to take in, the more we can give. You cannot give from an empty well.

How can you measure love? How are we to know whether the love we give is more than the love we get.. or even?
I want to convince myself I'm a giver.. I want to believe I can stretch my heart and expand my love so that it touches not only those whom I can give it easily, but also those who need it so much.. but how can I? .. where love is concerned, too much is not even enough!

It does seem that one always loves more. I have had it both ways. But never even. It can also change all the way around in the same relationship if you're in it long enough. The one that loves least has the power.

I think giving love is a lot like a seesaw....so as long as someone is on top...I'm happy.
