During the day the blue color of the sky is caused by a refractive principle known as Rayleigh Scattering. Basically the only color light that makes it through the atmosphere during the day is blue light. At dawn and dusk, the effect that produces the red color is called Wie Scattering. This effect has different refractive priciples that occur at lower angles of observation, like we see at sunrise and sunset, when we are at the greatest angle to the Sun, that refract most of the blue light away from us, allowing the redder colors to come through.

the sky is blue because of the following reason:
When sunlight travels through the atmosphere, blue light scatters more than the other colors, leaving a dominant yellow-orange hue to the transmitted light. The scattered light makes the sky blue; the transmitted light makes the sunset reddish orange.

the basic answer is that our atmosphere acts as a refracting lens to light. if you've ever seen what happens to light when passed through a lens, you can usualy see the spectrum of color (red, orange yellow, gree, blue, indigo, violet). disregarding some of the more technical descriptions of how light bends, when we get direct contact with sunlight, the atmosphere bends the white light and refracts the blue color. later when the sun sets and the light is only bouncing off the curve of the atmosphere, we see the pinkish red color of the setting sun.

There is lots and lots of dust particles in the air which reflect the colors of the earth. Since the earth is mostly water, it turns out to be blue.

you see strawberries as red because of reflection and absorption. strawberries really have all the colors, but red is the only color reflected, so that's the color you see.
you see grass as green because of reflection and absorption. grass really has all colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, "roy g biv"), but green is the only color reflected, so that's the only color you see.
the sky is blue because blue is most visible, and because it reflects off the ocean

its all to do with reflected light and its reaction with the atmosphere and the gases in it
