I mean, if you do love them would you be so willing to give up?

Reverse pyschology. Some people believe that if you smother someone with love and are always around them then this person will be forced to love you back. In those instances, the ooposite is true, let them have their space and love will grow if it was meant to be. Youre not necessarily giving up,just giving love some space to grow in. Dont smother this person to the point where youre actually killing him. Stay close enough to show this person youre interested but youre willing this person to be their self. Sometimes its the only way. Good luck

It's not a matter of "give up" but not trying to keep them against their will...you show your love for them by respecting their decision to lead their life as they see fit...in having that freedom (and not someone trying to force them to do something) they may well see that you are the one they want to be with after all...

...if that doesn't happen, then at least you'll know you did the right thing and try to be happy for them...

If you love something, set it free.
If it comes back, its yours
If it doesn't, it never was.

That means exactly that. If you love someone, trust them. Let them go out with their friends, not hound them and accuse them of cheating so to speak. If this person loves you enough, they'll come back. If they don't they'll stray. Don't keep them on ball and chain. No guy or girl likes that. If they go out with their friends and they love you, they'll have no interest in the opposite sex. However, if they do, then they don't love you.

The Lord God set down a ladder between He and Jacob, so that Jacob would know that God was right there above. That Jacob could ascend and descend upon the ladder to seek God's help and come back to earth. It was there to show Jacob, God's impending relationship with him. As long as the ladder was there, Jacob had God's help in all things. To this day this ladder still stands, invisibly. It is by faith alone that one has this security from God.

When you really love someone; whether it's your child, boyfriend, husband, whatever; you want only what's best for them and what you feel would make them happy so you try to "let go"; as hard as it is sometimes for you.

It means you would want the best for the one you love, because you love them. If giving them up would be in their best interests, if it would make them happier, then yes, setting them free would be the same. If you apply it to your parents,or your children for example, you would only ever want them to be happy. If your parents moved away or your child wanted to go to university, you would have to set them free from your wants/needs in order for them to be truly happy. Hope that helps x

No, but thats the whole point of the saying. If its going wrong and you want the best for them, you have to let them go. Translation of the saying: If it isnt working out and you really do love them, you have to allow them to do whats best for them. And usually that means for them to move on.

Love is two way. If you love someone and not receive in return, is it really love or lust?
If he loves you, he will return. If he doesn't, it wasn't meant to be.

Yes, let them go, if they love you they come back.
Although in my case it took two years.... but I believe.
