What has happend to yours, and the other persons computer is an update of xp has occured which has over wrote the quick set program. This means there is a problem and is much more than just following a link and re-installing the program.. There is a reason this has happend.. My advise is to roll back under system restore to a few days before you noticed it was gone.. or you can go to gateway's website, although gateway doesn't have very good online support, or downloadable drivers/programs, only the most commen for their "top end" lines...

On my Gateway, I am able to enable/disable the volume bar that pops up when I go into Control Panel>Keyboard Properties>Key Settings. Scroll all the way down until you see volume/mute, highlight it and click Edit. Let me know if this works for you. :o)

best answer to any gateway computer question is beat it to death with a hammer cause that's all they're worth, and that question and answer should both be the same if you both have windows xp cause thats the same software the computer doesn't matter.
