Well the party was formed by a group that believed slavery was unjust. So in that sense yes. Also, look up the Civil Rights Act, Republican Senators broke the Democrat led Senate filibuster of that law, which was sponsored by Democrat President Johnson.

I am British But I think I have a fair bit of Knowledge on this subject. The president prior to Lincoln was Buchannan the Democrat. The congress was trying to pass the 13th ammendment making slavery LAW! the Election of Abe Lincoln the Republican that was against the 13th amendment caused a rift and an attempt to divide into another country. This caused the civil war. Although it was very unpopular President Lincon ignored the popular choice and went on with the war. He won and Made sure the 13th ammendment was a law against slavery.
