Do you sing? Have you ever sung before in a choir or anything?

I have to be honest with you - what you're asking for, at this point, is an impossibility. Labels get hundreds of tapes per week from people who want to be signed, and most labels have anywhere from 10-25 acts on their roster. A lot of managers seek out talent themselves; they don't simply take phone calls from every person who wants to be the next pop star.

If this dream is because you want to be the next Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson, and not for the love of music, that'll make things even harder for you. If your wish was to become a trained musician, sing opera, what have you, there are lots of classical singers who find their way in performing arts.

If you wish to sing because you love music, then look into voice lessons to help guide you and build your musicianship. They can be expensive, so it might be like a Christmas or birthday sort of gift, and you would probably be best to inquire at a nearby university if they have a music department and if any of the vocal performance students teach private lessons.

A little-known fact is that only about 10% of those who set out to be musicians become well-known musicians. There are thousands of albums released each year, and not all of them make money. In fact, a lot of acts end up owing their record label money.

If I were you, I would ask for or buy the book All You Need to Know About the Music Business by Donald Passman. It is a very comprehensive look at how the music industry works and written by an entertainment lawyer. This will give you a realistic look at what it takes to become a success in the music industry.

Never tell how old you are on the Internet. If you are a natural singer (and really, you can either sing or you can't) then you need to study voice, take lessons, get into plays where you would sing, practice, practice, practice, join choir, practice some more, and then finally, when you get to college, major in voice/music, etc. At 11, your voice is far too young to be recognized unless you are as great as Judy Garland. you may not know who she is. Watch the Wizard of Oz and listen to her sing "Over the Rainbow." She was 16 at the time, but she could sing like that at your age and before. If you are not at least half as good, skip singing and go on to something else. The music business is very difficult and most who enter it never make the grade. And th eposter who told you to call David Letterman must be VERY NAIVE, as that just isn't done! He is a huge television personality and he isn't interested in little girls who believe they can sing. Neither are his people. You don't start at the top, dear, you begin at the bottom!

Every famous singer started off as the best voice in their
choir or school, etc. Being a singer is one thing and being.
famous for it is another. If you've been told many times by
people outside your family that you have an incredible voice,
then make a tape of you singing a variety of songs and send
it to theatrical agents in your town or a big city nearby. Do
this with parental consent. If you're that good, someone will
get back to you, Meanwhile keep singing for the joy of it,
continue your voice lessons and developing your gift.
