I've never worn contacts, and now I want to. But I just can't get over the fear of stuff touching my eye. I REALLY want to use contacts because I hate my glasses.... I especially don't like to touch the pupil/iris part of the eye... How's your experience with contacts? Are they comfortable? Which brand is the best? How can I get rid of my eye-poking fear? Please tell me your story if you had the same experience as me.... thanks

My eyesight used to be so bad. I had to wear eyeglasses since my early days in college. Later on, I tried the hard contact lens.
According to the optometrist, I couldn't wear the soft contacts because of my bad astigmatism. I had so much difficulty using those contact lenses. The grade in my right eye was slightly greater than my left; so I had to be careful to avoid switching the two lenses.

The number one difficulty I encountered wearing these contact lenses were the two facts. It was easy to put them on. But the problem was when it was time to take them out. I couldn;t successfully take them out. They tend to travel upwards . They get out of focus. They cause frequent eye irritations.. Other wearers complained of constant corneal tears.and or infection. And also, they are costly. Especially, the saline solution needed to wash them and store them. Even if you wear the perm or extended wear types.

Eventually, I threw them out as it wasn't worth all the inconvenience. The way I see it; you got two options. You should wear the disposable soft ones- accuvue. Or you could go for that lasik eye surgery. If the grade is not too high, this surgery is warranted and a more permanent solution.

I don't know what happen. Since I started aging into my 50's somehow my eyes readjusted and reconverted. Now I can see without wearing any eyeglasses. My driving license reflected that. I think that the more you wear your eyeglasses, the more the eyes get dependent on them.

How to get rid of your eye-poking fear? If you decide to go for that surgery which is non-invasive and quite successful. You can ask to be put under,e.g., anesthesia. Softklens make good comfortable soft contact lenses. If you are not sure, you could ask the ophthalmologist or optometrist; to let you try some. You could even get free samples from them without the grade of course. You have to develop the technique of applying them on and taking them out.

I can't tolerate the sight of any needle coming in contact or close proximity with my eyes. But I had tattoo eyelined done to my eyelids; several years ago. I put on some local anesthetic cream on first. This way, any eye make-up won't irritate me. Of course, I buy the hypoallergenic kinds. So that's another way to combat your eye-poking fear. Try to apply and test on a lot of eye make-up. .

Take it slow. If you know there is nothing to actually fear(that your fear is irrational) then you should be able to get over it.

Take your finger and put it really close to your eye. When you are comfortable with that, then try touching it softly. It may help to touch it through your eye lid first before touching it with just your finger.

I have had contacts for 9 years and trust me, i have never hurt myself. It doesn't feel like anything.
