Hi, my daughter who turned 3 in Dec has been having some communication problems including severe stuttering, sometimes refusing to speak at all, hates to make prolonged eye contact, and almost seems to have OCD (will line up crayons of the same color in perfect row, can't have any break in routine or a big fit ensues, will line up snacks in rows) She is very smart and her language is on par or maybe above for her age. I am wondering if anyone went through similiar issues and if there was any diagnosis involved? or is it something she will just grow out of?

Hi, my four year old used to do the same thing. She still does some strange organization routines (like lining every single one of her shoes in a perfect line sideways against her wall.) She stutters sometimes and had problems pronouncing some sounds. She talks all the time, sometimes she can just be hard to understand. She was in speech therapy for about 1 1/2 years. Other than her speech, I think her behavior is just showing us how creative and smart she is.

As was mentioned above, it could perhaps be Asperger's Disorder. It is a mild form of Autism that has no speech delay. Those with Asperger's are of average to above average intellegence. It might be beneficial to bring her in for testing. Asperger's is something that can make life more challenging, but it is not going to stop her from being successful. Disorders like this are very complex and too lengthy to get into here but do a web-search on Asperger's and see if it fits your daughter.

It might be Autism. I would take her to her Pediatrician to see what should be done next.( I'm just assuming from what I have learned about Autism.) Don't be alarmed!

Have you asked your doctor about possible aspergers syndrome?
Sounds a lot like it. My son does that too and he was just recently diagnosed. Look at this web site.
