The name by which we know Ralph best is "Wile E. Coyote", the one he used in his second role. That's how he was identified on his business card, something he didn't have in his first and third roles — the first because in that one, he was a wild predator; and the third because there, he was just a working schlub. That's what his partner, Sam, was too

The Coyote enjoyed a respectable if low-key career during the heyday of Warner Bros. cartoons. He made three more appearances opposite Bugs, and a total of seven as Ralph Wolf. Both roles ended in 1963 with Jones's departure from Warner Bros. And he contiued to appear in every Road Runner cartoon right up to the end of that series, in 1966.

I believe that the E stands for Edmund

the Road Runner, a flightless cartoon bird (loosely based on a real bird, the Greater Roadrunner), is chased down the highways of the Southwestern United States by a hungry coyote, named Wile E. Coyote (a pun on "wily coyote").

coyotes are very wily animals. that have to be to survive with so many humans encroaching upon their space. foxes are said to be "sly", rabbits "quick" etc.

coyotes are "wily"....so the cartoon character was named Wyle E. Coyote......a wily coyote, get it
